SUMMARY: In THE HOTTIE AND THE NOTTIE, a young man tries to appease a beautiful woman's ugly girlfriend to get the girl of his dreams. THE HOTTIE AND THE NOTTIE is funny and entertaining at times, but its positive lessons are mitigated by some foul language, brief off-color humor and immoral sexual attitudes.
IN BRIEF:
THE HOTTIE AND THE NOTTIE, a romantic comedy, stars Joel David Moore as Nate Cooper. When Nate's girlfriend leaves him, Nate realizes that the woman he really wants is Cristabel Abbot, played by Paris Hilton. Nate has been smitten with Cristabel since they were six. With help from a childhood friend, Nate tracks down Cristabel. He learns, however, that Cristabel won't date anyone seriously until her ugly friend, June Phigg, finds someone. Nate sets out to find a date for June, who is actually quite witty and smart, but her looks turn all the men away. Then, Nate realizes a makeover could help June immensely. Complications ensue.
THE HOTTIE AND THE NOTTIE doesn't stereotype Paris Hilton's character as a vacuous glamour girl, but it is clear that her character enjoys pre-marital sex. Thus, the movie doesn't strongly condemn sexual immorality. It also has some mostly light foul language. Mitigating these problems is the movie's ending, where sex with objects of lust is rejected for true love and romance with the right person. THE HOTTIE AND THE NOTTIE is not a really terrible movie, but its sexual attitudes require extreme caution.
